Problems that occurred with my first music magazine draft

I asked a few of my peer members to look at my first draft of my music magazine and most of them told me;

  1. Front cover: My colour scheme came across as quite simple, also the colours that I used against the background never blend well to some people however they understood why my front cover was black, yellow and green because the genre of my magazine is 'Bashment' which originated from Jamaica.  The quality of the main image was poor, when some of them looked at it they never felt a connection with the artist and the photo itself looked as if not enough input was put in for example lighting and angle shots. Not enough sub headings which meant that the magazine would less likely be able to attract an audience. There was no date of the magazine
  2. Contents page: Not enough contents. The format of a magazine is not the same as the front because i used a red stroke behind the typography which was not used on the front cover nor did it link in with any of the colour scheme or pictures. Most  magazine usually have two or more columns underneath each other and my contents were diagonal from each other.  An image of my artist was not placed on my contents page which made him seem insignificant. Not enough pictures present. The font that i used was not very sophisticated meaning my font was unprofessional, the typography that occurs in most magazines are Arial.
  3.  Double paged spread:  I did not use a  range of different angled shots, such as high angled/low angled shots of the artist. The pictures i used did not blend well with the text, the text did not go around the pictures. the font i used was not the average 12 font size it was bigger than that. I had no pull quotes which is not really needed but it usually attracts viewrs who read an article. No use of effect on the images used

Reason for changing my artist

One of the reasons why i changed my artist is because the person who i am currently using, his style is unique and different compared to the way how some young artist will dress, which means that he would not look uncomfortable if i wanted to place him in a suit or shirt because he naturally dresses that way.Secondly he would be showing off a different representation of youth, the could make some people curious and intrigued to know what the artist on the main front cover is like. Some people will ideaolise the fact that he's steering away from the stereotypical attire youth are usually seen in which are track suits, hoodies and trainers.In one of my pictures i have taken a shot of my artist in everyday casual clothes; jumper and jeans. One of the reason why i done this shot is because after I received my peer assessment feedback and showed my magazine to some of my friends they suggested that i use a casual attire look on my artist so that he attracts a wide range of audiences.
